Perceptions of Mental Health Challenges and Needs of Indonesian Adolescents: A Descriptive Qualitative Study.
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Indonesian adolescents face an increased risk of developing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, largely due to insufficient mental health literacy and awareness. This lack of knowledge often leads to delayed recognition and treatment. To address this, the present descriptive qualitative study explores Indonesian adolescents' perceptions of mental health challenges and needs. Fourteen adolescents from two public schools in Indonesia were selected through purposive sampling based on their mental health literacy scores (either high or low). One-on-one semi-structured interviews were conducted in December 2023, and thematic analysis was used to uncover key patterns and themes. The study follows the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research guidelines. Three
