ABSTRACT: Background
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Many countries use pooled cohort equations or similar risk prediction models to assess atherosclerotic CVD risk to guide preventive measures. There is evidence that clinical CVD risk prediction equations are less accurate for adults with higher levels of multimorbidity (the co-occurrence of multiple long-term conditions). Operating within a single disease paradigm may not be appropriate for adults with multimorbidity who may be at higher risk of both CVD and non-CVD death. This scoping review was conducted to gather evidence on the inclusion of multimorbidity measures in CVD risk models to assess their methodology and identify evidence gaps in the literature. Methods
