Intramyocardial Dissection and Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm Complicating Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement.

ABSTRACT:

Background

Intramyocardial dissection and sinus of Valsalva aneurysm are both rare cardiac conditions that could complicate cardiac surgical interventions.

Case summary

We report a unique case of a young man with multiple episodes of syncope who was diagnosed with both intramyocardial dissection and sinus of Valsalva aneurysm a few months after mechanical aortic valve replacement. The patient subsequently died.

Discussion

The accurate diagnosis of this complex disease was possible by using multiple noninvasive cardiac imaging techniques, including echocardiography and computed tomography scan. The association of both complications could suggest an underlying condition such as connective tissue disease. Intramyocardial dissection can be responsible for several complica
