ABSTRACT:

Background

Drug-related problems (DRP) in pre-operative care can harm patient outcomes. This study aimed to develop and validate a pre-operative risk prediction tool (mediPORT) to calculate the probability of DRP in admitted patients.

Methods

Elective surgery patients aged ≥ 18 years admitted to the pre-anaesthesia clinic and participating in a medication review by pharmacists were included in this case-control study. Routinely reported patient variables were included in a backward stepwise logistic regression to determine the most relevant predictors (minimum Akaike Information Criterion) of DRP.
