ABSTRACT: Case summary
Aortic dissection and left ventricular (LV)wall rupture after acute myocardial infarction can both be life-threatening. Furthermore, it is difficult to distinguish between aortic dissection and acute myocardial infarction due to similar clinical presentation. Herein, we present the case of a 72-year-old man with ST-segment elevation who developed a cardiac tamponade. Emergency angiography revealed an intimal flap extending from the aortic root. Surgical intervention confirmed a LV free wall rupture complicated by acute myocardial infarction. This case highlights the challenges in diagnosing the cause of cardiac tamponade.Take-home messages
First, this case highlights the diagnostic challenge of distinguishing cardiac tamponade caused by acute myocardial infarct
