ABSTRACT:

Importance

Recent research suggests that since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the US Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v Hodges, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender (LGBT) individuals are now at or beyond parity in insurance coverage with their non-LGBT counterparts, a reversal of a long-standing health disparity, but shows that gains have not been equitable.

Objective

To examine health insurance coverage of same-sex and different-sex couples by marital status, sex, insurance provider, state of residence, and income distribution.
