A simple method to distinguish light scattering from light absorption by nanoparticles.

ABSTRACT: Photothermal efficiencies of natural and biomimetic melanin nanoparticles are compared. In order to justify the different behaviour, a preliminary investigation of the light scattering and light absorption properties of the NPs was performed using a simple new method based on a conventional fluorometer without the use of any integrating sphere.
