ABSTRACT: Background
Delirium, a prevalent form of acute brain dysfunction, is characterized by perceptual disturbances that may lead to the formation of delusional memories. This pathological process could subsequently elevate the risk of developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the findings of previous research are inconsistent, and the association has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, this study attempts to clarify the epidemiological relationship between delirium and PTSD as well as its clinical significance through a thorough integration of the available data, aiming to provide an evidence-based foundation for the early identification of high-risk patients and the creation of focused intervention strategies. Methods
