Clinical value of 99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy combined with posttherapeutic 131I whole-body scanning in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer with sTg ≥10 ng/mL before initial radioiodine therapy: a retrospective study.

ABSTRACT:

Background

The 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines indicate that patients with stimulated thyroglobulin (sTg) ≥10 ng/mL may need further evaluations. It has been reported that Technetium-99m-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (99mTc-MIBI) scintigraphy offers a reliable and easy means of detecting metastases in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). The principal aim of this study was to investigate the clinical value of 99mTc-MIBI scintigraphy combined with posttherapeutic 131I-whole-body scanning (pt-131I WBS) in patients with DTC and sTg ≥10 ng/mL before initial radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT). Additionally, we analyzed the differences in the therapeutic efficacy of RAIT among different groups.
