S100A4/FSP1: A Prognostic Marker and a Promising Target for Antitumor Therapy.

ABSTRACT: Numerous studies over three decades have confirmed the significant role of S100A4/FSP1 in the development of metastasis, the formation of the cellular and inflammatory components of the tumor microenvironment, and the development of fibrosis. S100A4 is a promising biomarker whose detection is associated with predicting overall survival in cancer patients. The action of S100A4 is mediated by extra- and intracellular signaling pathways involving targets currently used in the development of therapeutic agents, including monoclonal antibodies and drugs for targeted protein degradation.
