Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring Versus Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose in People With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Non-Intensive Insulin Therapy in South Korea.

ABSTRACT:

Objectives

There is limited evidence regarding the cost-effectiveness of real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rt-CGM) in the management of type 2 diabetes in patients receiving basal insulin regimens in South Korea. This study aimed to address this gap by analyzing the cost-effectiveness of rt-CGM when compared with self-monitoring of blood glucose.

Research design and methods

The cost-effectiveness of rt-CGM was modeled using the IQVIA Core Diabetes Model from a South Korean payer perspective in a simulated cohort based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A remaining lifetime horizon (up to 50 years), and a discount rate of 4.5% per annum were adopted. The willingness-to-pay threshold was KRW 47 million per quality-adjusted life year (Q
