Unmasking three blinding indices for randomized controlled trials: comparison and application.

ABSTRACT: Blinding is an important methodological aspect of randomized controlled trials. Although three blinding indices are available for the estimation of blinding in clinical trials, little guidance is available regarding their comparison and application. Here, we compared three blinding indices and applied them to hypothetical and real-world clinical trial data. Through this comparison and application tutorial, we identified strengths and limitations of each blinding index. Our findings provide insights into the assessment, estimation and reporting of blinding in randomized controlled trials.
