Brown adipose tissue (BAT) protects against obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. During BAT activation, macroautophagy is inhibited, while chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) is induced, promoting thermogenic gene expression, adipokine release, oxidative activity, and lipolysis.
