Resilience Among Wife and Husband Caregivers of Patients With Newly Diagnosed Advanced Cancer: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background and aims

Resilience in spousal caregivers plays a crucial role in safeguarding mental well-being. Moreover, resilience in female and male caregivers may be influenced by distinct factors when caring for patients with advanced cancer. This study aimed to investigate and compare risk and protective factors of resilience among husbands and wives of patients with advanced cancer in China.

Methods

This cross-sectional study enrolled 360 spouses of patients with newly diagnosed advanced cancer from January to June 2022 in China, including 154 husbands and 206 wives. The participants reported on resilience levels, patient functional status, social support, coping self-efficacy, mutuality, and caregiver burden.
