Predictive diagnostic models for newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus in moderate to severe COVID-19: the role of TyG Index, BMI, and inflammatory markers.

ABSTRACT:

Background

The association between COVID-19 and newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM) remains uncertain. This cross-sectional study examines the role of insulin resistance (IR) and selected inflammatory markers in COVID-19 associated newly diagnosed DM.

Research design and methods

A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted at an academic tertiary hospital and a primary healthcare facility, with COVID-19 patients additionally followed for three months post-discharge. Participants included patients hospitalised with moderate to severe COVID-19 during the third wave of predominantly the delta variant. Diagnostic markers predictive of newly diagnosed DM were assessed using logistic regression analysis. Four predictive diagnostic models were developed, incorporating combination
