ABSTRACT: Background
Increased oxidative stress (OS) and impaired fibrinolysis contribute to carcinogenesis and have been observed in lung cancer (LC) patients. The relationship between protein carbonylation (PC) and fibrinolysis in LC is unclear. We aimed to evaluate whether PC levels contribute to the prothrombotic properties of fibrin clots, including impaired fibrinolysis, and whether PC may impact mortality in patients with LC.Methods
In this cohort study, we assessed 147 patients aged 64.2±7.0 years (men, n=45, 30.6%) with inoperable LC (stage IV, n=90, 61.2%). PC content was determined using the assay by Becatti et al. (reference range, 0.54-2.03 nmol/mg protein). Fibrin clot permeability (Ks), clot formation, along with clot lysis time (CLT), and thrombin generation we
