Dataset Information

The impact of preoperative percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy on pleural recurrence in clinically early-stage non-small cell lung cancer.

ABSTRACT:

Background

The potential association between preoperative percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) and pleural recurrence in lung cancer remains controversial. This study aimed to determine whether PTNB increases the risk of pleural recurrence in patients with clinically diagnosed stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods

We retrospectively analyzed 1,733 patients with clinical stage I NSCLC who underwent surgical resection between January 2018 and December 2020. Patients were divided into the PTNB group (n=699) and the non-PTNB group (n=1,034). After 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM), risk factors for pleural recurrence were assessed using Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models. Cumulative incidence rate and overall survival (OS) were also analyzed.
