Characterization and Preparation of Nanostructured Al₂Fe₃Si₃ Thermoelectric Materials.

ABSTRACT: A nanostructured Al₂Fe₃Si₃ composite has been synthesized by high-energy ball milling followed by spark plasma sintering. Formations of oxides and FeSi or Al₂Fe₃Si₄ phases in nanometer-size scales were observed in addition to the matrix Al₂Fe₃Si₃ phase. Because of enhanced phonon scattering, the materials show low lattice thermal conductivities such as ~5 W/mK at the minimum.
