Background

The European healthcare sector is currently facing a critical workforce retention crisis, characterized by a significant shortage of qualified medical personnel across hospitals in European Union countries. Recent data indicate a high and increasing intention among physicians and nurses to leave their positions, due to factors such as burnout, lack of support, and challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project Mental Health: Focus on Retention of Healthcare Workers (METEOR), funded by the European Commission, aimed to improve job retention in hospital settings across Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland.
