Species-Dependent Structural Variations in Single-Domain Antibodies.

ABSTRACT:

Background/objectives

Single-domain antibodies (sdAbs) are derived from camelid heavy-chain antibodies (HCAb). Their small size, high stability, and ease of production, among other properties, makes them highly valuable in biomedical research and therapeutic development. Several sdAb-based molecules are currently progressing through clinical trials, highlighting their translational relevance. As sdAbs originate from HCAb of Camelidae family, they can originate from multiple species including Vicugna pacos, Lama glama, Camelus dromedarius and Camelus bactrianus. Although several reports and databases analyze the structure of sdAbs, comprehensive evaluations on species-dependent structural differences remain scarce.
