Association of life's essential 8 with depressive symptoms in US cardiovascular disease survivors: a cross-sectional analysis from NHANES 2007-2018.

Introduction

In recent years, Life's Essential 8 (LE8) has been increasingly applied as an indicator to assess cardiovascular health condition. Depression is common in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This study aimed to explore the relationship between LE8 and depressive symptoms in patients with CVD.

Methods

The present cross-sectional study was based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2007 and 2018, including 2343 participants diagnosed with CVD. The LE8 score, derived from measurements following the American Heart Association definitions, were categorized into quartiles, and presence of clinically significant depression was defined by a Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) score ≥ 10.
