Association of TRPV1 genetic variants with cognitive functions in Parkinson disease.

ABSTRACT: Parkinson disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, including cognitive impairment. The transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel has been implicated in neurodegenerative processes, but its contribution to cognitive variation in PD remains unclear. This study aimed to determine whether TRPV1 genetic variants influence cognitive performance and whether these effects are moderated by PD status. Three TRPV1 polymorphisms (rs8065080, rs12936340, rs182637) were genotyped in 274 healthy control subjects and 127 individuals with PD. Cognitive function was assessed across global, executive, visuospatial, memory, attention, and language domains. Moderation analysis revealed that rs12936340 and rs182637 were associated with cognitive p
