Association between advanced lung cancer inflammation index and postoperative mortality in lung cancer patients: a retrospective cohort study.

ABSTRACT:

Background

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. Surgical resection of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is associated with a suboptimal survival rate and significant adverse outcomes. The advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI), which integrates body mass index (BMI), albumin level, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), comprehensively assesses nutritional and inflammatory status, potentially improving prognostic precision in surgical patients.

Methods

This retrospective cohort study analyzed 2447 patients who underwent lung cancer resection (INSPIRE database, South Korea, 2011-2020). The ALI (BMI × Albumin/NLR) was calculated preoperatively. Patients were stratified into high (≥ 37.22) and low (< 37.22) ALI groups (receiver operat
