ABSTRACT: Dialdehyde crosslinked poly aspartate/alginate hydrogel beads were synthesized by covalently introducing poly aspartate into the alginate network via dialdehyde-mediated crosslinking, and the resulting effects on swelling and adsorption behavior were investigated. Alginate was partially oxidized to form dialdehyde alginate and crosslinked with poly aspartic acid via Schiff base formation, followed by ionic crosslinking with calcium ions. The chemical structure and morphology of the gel beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Incorporation of PAsp significantly altered the swelling behavior of alginate-based gel beads. In saline solution, PAsp-modified gel beads exhibited a swelling ratio of approximately 112 g/g, which was highe
