BACKGROUND: Phosphatidylinositol (PI) is a phospholipid that exerts anti-inflammatory effects when injected during experimental colitis. The levels of PI species in the serum of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their association with disease activity have not yet been determined.
