ABSTRACT: [reaction: see text] The development of an approach leading to the total synthesis of dactylolide is described. The key features of this route include a catalytic asymmetric allylation, a diastereoselective pyran annulation, and a Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons macrocyclization.
