Lipid droplets (LDs) are cytoplasmic organelles that store neutral lipids for use as an energy supply in times of nutrient deprivation and for membrane assembly. Misregulation of LD function leads to many human diseases, including lipodystrophy, obesity and neutral lipid storage disorders.
