The hydro-thermally prepared title compound, sodium iron(III) bis-[trioxotellurate(IV)], is isotypic with its Ga(III) analogue and consists of corrugated layers with an overall composition of [FeTe(2)O(6)](-) together with Na(+) cations. The layers extend parallel to (001) and are made up of [Fe(2)O(10)] edge-shared octa-hedral dimers and TeO(3) trigonal pyramids sharing vertices. Project description:Single crystals of dizinc tellurium dibromide trioxide, Zn(2)(TeO(3))Br(2), were synthesized via a transport reaction in sealed evacuated silica tubes. The compound has a layered crystal structure in which the building units are [ZnO(4)Br] distorted square pyramids, [ZnO(2)Br(2)] distorted tetra-hedra, and [TeO(3)E] tetra-hedra (E being the 5s(2) lone pair of Te(4+)) joined through sharing of edges and corners to form layers of no net charge. Bromine atoms and tellurium lone pairs protrude from the surfaces of each layer towards adjacent layers. This new compound Zn(2)(TeO(3))Br(2) is isostructural with the synthetic compounds Zn(2)(TeO(3))Cl(2), CuZn(TeO(3))(2), Co(2)(TeO(3))Br(2) and the mineral sophiite, Zn(2)(SeO(3))Cl(2).

Project description:Pb(6)Co(9)(TeO(6))(5), hexa-lead(II) nona-cobalt(II) penta-tellur-ate(VI), is isotypic with its nickel(II) analogue. The asymmetric unit contains two Pb atoms (site symmetries .2., ..2), four Co atoms (..2, ..2, 3.., 3.2) two Te atoms (..2, 3..) and six O atoms (all in general positions), with the Te and Co sites in octa-hedral coordination environments. The crystal structure can be subdivided into two types of layers parallel to (001). The first layer at z ≃ 0.25 is made up of edge-sharing [CoO(6)] and [TeO(6)] octa-hedra, with 1/6 of the octa-hedral holes not occupied. The second layer, situated at z ≃ 0, consist of an alternating arrangement of Pb(II) atoms and of double octa-hedra that are made up from face-sharing [CoO(6)] and [TeO(6)] octa-hedra. The two types of layers are linked together through corner-sharing of [CoO(6)] and [TeO(6)] octa-hedra. The Pb(II) atoms are situated in the cavities of the framework and are stereochemically active with one-sided [4]- and [6]-coordinations, respectively.

Project description:This data article contains the synthesis and structure information of a new Fe-base sodium metaphosphate compound, which is related to the research article entitled 'Synthesis, structural, magnetic and sodium deinsertion/insertion properties of a sodium ferrous metaphosphate, NaFe(PO3)3' by Lin et al. [1]. The research article has reported a new Fe-base metaphosphate compound NaFe(PO3)3, which is discovered during the exploration of the new potential electrode materials for sodium-ion batteries. In this data article, the synthesized process of this metaphosphate compound and the morphology of the obtained sample will be provided. The high-power XRD Rietveld refinement is applied to determine the crystal structure of this metaphosphate compound and the refinement result including the main refinement parameters, atomic coordinate and some important lattace parameters are stored in the cif file. Also, the refined structure has be evaluated by checkcif report and the result is also provided as the supplementary materials.

Project description:Despite great attention toward transition metal tellurates especially M3TeO6 (M = transition metal) in magnetoelectric applications, control on single phasic morphology-oriented growth of these tellurates at the nanoscale is still missing. Herein, a hydrothermal synthesis is performed to synthesize single-phased nanocrystals of two metal tellurates, i.e., Ni3TeO6 (NTO with average particle size ∼37 nm) and Cu3TeO6 (CTO ∼ 140 nm), using NaOH as an additive. This method favors the synthesis of pure NTO and CTO nanoparticles without the incorporation of Na at pH = 7 in MTO crystal structures such as Na2M2TeO6, as it happens in conventional synthesis approaches such as solid-state reaction and/or coprecipitation. Systematic characterization techniques utilizing in-house and synchrotron-based characterization methods for the morphological, structural, electronic, magnetic, and photoconductivity properties of nanomaterials showed the absence of Na in individual particulate single-phase MTO nanocrystals. Prepared MTO nanocrystals also exhibit slightly higher antiferromagnetic interactions (e.g., T N-NTO = 57 K and T N-CTO = 68 K) compared to previously reported MTO single crystals. Interestingly, NTO and CTO show not only a semiconducting nature but also photoconductivity. The proposed design scheme opens the door to any metal tellurates for controllable synthesis toward different applications. Moreover, the photoconductivity results of MTO nanomaterials prepared serve as a preliminary proof of concept for potential application as photodetectors.

Thus, we sought to investigate whether behaviorally relevant propagation of visual information is as strictly sequential as sometimes supposed. We compared the accuracy of visual recognition after selective removal of specific subregions of inferior temporal cortex-area TEO, area TE, or both areas combined. Removal of TEO alone had no detectable effect on recognition memory, whereas removal of TE alone produced a large and significant impairment. Combined removal of both areas created no additional deficit relative to removal of TE alone. Thus, area TE is critical for rapid visual object recognition, and detailed image-level visual information can reach area TE via a route other than through TEO.

Project description:The ability to categorize images is thought to depend on neural processing within the ventral visual stream. Recently, we reported that after removal of architectonic area TE, the terminal region of the ventral stream, monkeys were still able to categorize images as cats or dogs moderately well. Here, we investigate the contribution of TEO, the architectonically defined region located one step earlier than area TE in the ventral stream. Bilateral removal of TEO caused only a mild impairment in categorization. However, combined TE + TEO removal was followed by a severe, long-lasting impairment in categorization. All of the monkeys tested, including those with combined TE + TEO removals, had normal low-level visual functions, such as visual acuity. These results support the conclusion that categorization based on visual similarity is processed in parallel in TE and TEO.

Project description:Object categorization is a fundamental visual function, via which primates group items based on perceptual similarity. Neurons that respond to a class of complex objects, such as faces, can be found in inferior temporal cortex of macaque monkeys, comprising areas TEO and TE. The ability of monkeys to categorize cat/dog images is greatly impaired when both TE and TEO are removed, but is only modestly impaired if either region is left intact. This suggests that both TE and TEO can support object categorization. We investigated what differences exist in category information processing between areas TEO and TE. For cat and dog stimulus images, we found that category decoding performance increased during the initial phase of a stimulus presentation, then remained stable in area TEO for the duration of the presentation in a passive fixation task. In area TE, category decoding performance continued to improve into later in the time window than in TEO. Furthermore, we found that, after cat/dog category training, area TE neuronal populations encode cat and dog category information more strongly than do TEO neurons even in a fixation task (Mann-Whitney U-test, p < 0.05). Together, our results suggest that area TEO processes category information without changing its representation, whereas the category information representation in area TE evolves over time (both within a trial and across category training sessions), indicating that responses in TE may be influenced by top-down feedback.

Project description:Phase-formation studies in the system CdO-TeO3 using a CsCl/NaCl melt at comparatively low temperatures revealed that tricadmium orthotellurate(VI), Cd3TeO6, is dimorphic. The new modification of Cd3TeO6 is denoted as the β-form and adopts the rhombohedral Mg3TeO6 structure type with one Cd and two O sites in general positions, and two Te sites with site symmetry each. In comparison with the previously reported monoclinic cryolite-type α-form that was prepared at higher temperatures, β-Cd3TeO6 has a much lower density and most likely represents a metastable modification. Whereas the [TeO6] octa-hedra in both polymorphs are very similar and show only minor deviations from ideal values, the polyhedra around the CdII sites are different, with a distorted [CdO6] octa-hedron in both modifications but an additional [CdO8] polyhedron with a [4 + 4] coordination in the α-form.

Project description:Cu3TeO6 (CTO) has been synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis applying different pH values without any template or a calcination step to control the crystalline phase and the morphology of nanoparticles. The physicochemical properties characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible (DRUV-vis) spectroscopy techniques revealed that the pH values significantly influence the crystal growth. In acidic media (pH = 2), crystal growth has not been achieved. At pH = 4, the yield is low (10%), and the CTO presents irregular morphology. At pH = 6, the yield increases (up to 71%) obtaining an agglomeration of nanoparticles into spherical morphology. At basic conditions (pH = 8), the yield increases up to 90% and the morphology is the same as the sample obtained at pH = 6. At high basic conditions (pH = 10), the yield is similar (92%), although the morphology changes totally to dispersed nanoparticles. Importantly, the as-prepared CTO semiconductor presents photocatalytic activity for H2 production using triethanolamine as a sacrificial agent under visible light illumination. The results also revealed that the nanoparticles agglomerated in a spherical morphology with larger surface area presented almost double activities in H2 production compared to heterogeneously sized particles. These results highlight the suitable optoelectronic properties, including optical band gap, energy levels, and photoconductivity of CTO semiconductors for their use in photocatalytic H2 production.
