Bis[N-(2-hydroxy-benzo-yl)pyridine-2-carboxamidrazonato-κN,N,O]manganese(II).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Mn(C(13)H(11)N(4)O(2))(2)], the Mn atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral manner by pyridyl N atoms, amidrazonato N atoms and carbamoy O atoms from two tridentate N(3)-salicyloylpyridine-2-carboxamidrazonato ligands. N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of two chains, one parallel to the b axis and the other one parallel to the c axis. These two chains are cross-linked, building up layers parallel to the (100) plane.

The tert-butyl group of the 4-tert-butyl-pyridine ligand is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.60:0.40 ratio. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mn(NCS)2(C12H9NO)4], consists of one MnII cation located on a centre of inversion, one thio-cyanate anion and two 4-benzoyl-pyridine co-ligands. The MnII cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by two terminally N-bonded anionic ligands and four N-bonded 4-benzoyl-pyridine co-ligands within a slightly distorted octa-hedron. Individual complexes are linked by inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions into chains running along the c-axis direction. Simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry measurements reveal a decomposition in two separate steps, in each of which two co-ligands are removed. The compound obtained after the first step has the composition [Mn(NCS)2(C12H9NO)2] and is of unknown structure, before in the second step decomposition into [Mn(NCS)2] is observed. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show the MnII cations to be in the high-spin state, and that weak anti-ferromagnetic inter-actions between the complexes are present.

The discrete complexes are connected by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the alcohol OH group and the carbonyl O atom into chains parallel to [011].
