Poly[[diaqua-nickel(II)]-μ(2)-4,4'-bipyridine-κN:N'-μ-p-phenyl-enedioxy-diacetato-κO:O'].

ABSTRACT: The title coordination polymer, [Ni(C(10)H(8)O(6))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)](n), was obtained by the hydro-thermal reaction of nickel(II) sulfate, benzene-1,4-dioxy-diacetic acid (p-phenyl-enedioxy-diacetic acid) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bpy) in alkaline aqueous solution. Each Ni(II) atom is coordinated by two O atoms from two benzene-1,4-dioxy-diacetate ligands, two N atoms from two 4,4'-bpy ligands and two water mol-ecules, and displays a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Ni(II) atom and benzene-1,4-dioxy-diacetate and 4,4'-bpy moieties lie on inversion centres. The benzene-1,4-dioxy-diacetate ligands bridge the Ni(II) atoms to form infinite zigzag chains, which are further inter-connected by 4,4'-bpy ligands to form a grid-like layer parallel to the (01) plane. Moreover, there are O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions within the grid-like layer between the coordinated water mol-ecules and the carboxyl-ate O atoms.

Project description:In the polymeric title complex, [Zn(C(10)H(8)O(4)S(2))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Zn(2+) ion lies on a twofold rotation axis and exhibits an octa-hedral environment, in which it is coordinated by two trans O atoms from two symmetry-related 2,2'-[1,4-phenyl-enebis(sulfanedi-yl)]diacetate anions, two N atoms from one 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, and two cis O atoms from water mol-ecules. The dihedral angle between the two pyridine rings is 11.5 (1)°. Adjacent Zn(2+) ions are bridged in a monodentate manner by the diacetate anions, forming a chain structure extending parallel to [101], and are further linked into the final three-dimensional structure by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinating water mol-ecules as donor and the non-coordinating carboxyl-ate O atoms as acceptor atoms.

Project description:The title binuclear complex, [Co(2)(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(6)], has been synthesized hydro-thermally from 3-nitro-phthalic acid (H(2)NPA), Co(NO(3))(2)·6H(2)O and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy). The mol-ecule of the complex occupies a special position on an inversion centre. The Co(II) atom has a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment formed by two N atoms from two 4,4'-bipy ligands, one carboxyl-ate O atom from NPA, and three O atoms of water mol-ecules. An extensive O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding system links mol-ecules of the complex into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title helical coordination polymer, {[Ni(C(7)H(4)O(6)S)(C(10)H(8)N(2)S)(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), is comprised of an Ni(II) ion, one 5-sulfosalicylic acid dianion (HSSA), two 4,4'-dipyridylsulfide (4,4'-dps) ligands, and two coordinated and two uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The Ni(II) ion is coordinated by two water mol-ecules, one carboxyl-ate O atom of the HSSA dianion and three N atoms from three 4,4'-dps ligands in a distorted octa-hedral environment. Half of the 4,4'-dps ligands are μ(2)-bridging ligands which link adjacent Ni(II) centers, forming a one-dimensional helical structure along the b axis. This helical structure is further stabilized by O-H⋯O intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds.

In the anionic chain, the Cd atom lies on a center of inversion in an octa-hedral geometry. The midpoint of the coordinated bipyridine also resides on a center of inversion, as does the non-coordinated bipyridinium counterion. O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding inter-actions and π-π stacking inter-actions in the structure are responsible for the supra-molecular assembly.
