ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(12)H(14)N(2)O(3), was synthesized as an inter-mediate for the synthesis of metamitron. The benzene ring forms dihedral angles of 86.3 (2) and 10.0 (3)° with the ethyl group and the acetyl-imino plane, respectively. The crystal structure involves inter-molecular C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title salt, C(8)H(12)N(+)·C(2)F(3)O(2) (-), all of the ammonium H atoms serve as donors for hydrogen bonds to carboxyl-ate O atoms, forming an R(4) (3)(10) ring motif based on two cations and two anions. Since both cations and anions act as inter-ion bridging groups, R(10) rings aggregate in a one-dimensional supra-molecular network by sharing the strongest N-H⋯O bond. Edge-sharing motifs lie on the twofold screw axis parallel to [010], and anti-parallel packing of these 2(1)-column structural units results in the crystal structure. This arrangement is one of the most commonly occurring in conglomerates of chiral 1-phenyl-ethyl-amine with achiral monocarboxylic acids, confirming that these ionic salts are particularly robust supra-molecular heterosynthons useful in crystal engineering.

Ethyl 4-acetyl-5-oxo-3-phenyl-hexa-noate.

Project description:The reaction of ethyl 3-bromo-3-phenyl-propano-ate with pentane-2,4-dione, in the presence of palladium(II) acetate and triphenyl-phosphine, in dimethyl-formamide, unexpectedly gave the title product, C(16)H(20)O(4). The mol-ecule contains one chiral C atom but the crystal is racemic. In the crystal, neighboring mol-ecules form a chain along [100] through three weak C-H⋯O inter-actions. Furthermore, a double-stranded structure is formed through weak C-H⋯O inter-actions between two parallel chains.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(12)H(12)N(2)O(3)S, is composed of two individually planar units, viz. 5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-sulfanyl and ethyl acetate, which are oriented at almost right angles [80.07 (8)°] with respect to each other. The structure is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds. The phenyl and oxadiazole rings show π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.846 (2) Å] and there is also a short π-inter-action between the carbonyl O atom and the oxadiazole ring [the distance from this O atom to the centroid of the oxadiazole ring is 3.156 (2) Å].

The additional alkyl bridges significantly rigidify the structure and enforce a 'bowl' shape on the mol-ecular cavity. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecule lies on a crystallographic mirror plane, and a single ethyl acetate mol-ecule (also lying on the mirror plane) is present within the compound cavity, illustrating the host capabilities of the mol-ecule.
