3-Meth-oxy-N-p-tolyl-benzohydroxamic acid.

ABSTRACT: Two mol-ecules of the title compound, C(15)H(15)NO(3), are linked by a pair of O-H⋯O(carbon-yl) hydrogen bonds over a centre of inversion to form a hydrogen-bonded dimer. With respect to the -C(=O)-N(OH)- unit, the methoxy-substituted ring is twisted by 42.2 (1)°, whereas the methyl-substituted ring is twisted by 52.2 (1)°.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(15)H(15)NO(2), the aromatic rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 15.46 (6)°. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond results in the formation of a nearly planar six-membered ring [maximum deviation of 0.035 (5) Å for the N atom] which is almost coplanar with the adjacent ring, making a dihedral angle of 0.8 (3)°. The title organic mol-ecule is a phenol-imine tautomer, as evidenced by the C-O, C-N and C-C bond lengths. Mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds that generate a C(5) chain. C-H⋯π and π-π inter-actions exist in the structure. The π-π inter-action occurs between the phenol ring and its symmetry equivalent at (1 - x, 1 - y, -z), with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.727 (7) Å and a plane-to-plane separation of 3.383 (5) Å, resulting in an offset angle of 24.82 (1)°.

Project description:The title compounds, C10H11BrO4, (I), and C9H9BrO4, (II), are derivatives of bromo-hy-droxy-benzoic acids. Compound (II) crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. In both (I) and (II), the O-CH2-O-CH3 side chain is not in its fully extended conformation; the O-C-O-C torsion angle is 67.3 (3) ° in (I), and -65.8 (3) and -74.1 (3)° in mol-ecules A and B, respectively, in compound (II). In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming C(5) chains along [010]. The chains are linked by short Br⋯O contacts [3.047 (2) Å], forming sheets parallel to the bc plane. The sheets are linked via C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional architecture. In the crystal of (II), mol-ecules A and B are linked to form R 2 (2)(8) dimers via two strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These dimers are linked into ⋯A-B⋯A-B⋯A-B⋯ [C 2 (2)(15)] chains along [011] by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The chains are linked by slipped parallel π-π inter-actions [inter-centroid distances = 3.6787 (18) and 3.8431 (17) Å], leading to the formation of slabs parallel to the bc plane.
