4-Hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetra-methyl-piperidinium trifluoro-acetate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(9)H(20)NO(+)·C(2)F(3)O(2) (-), is an important inter-mediate in the synthesis of hindered light stabilizers. The piperidinium ring adopts a chair conformation with the hydroxyl group in an equatorial position. The crystal packing is stabilized by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The CF(3) group is disordered over two positions with almost equal site occupancy factors.

The 4-hydr-oxy-2,2,6,6-tetra-methyl-piperidinium cation and one of the two crystallographically independent chloride anions are located on a mirror plane. The hydroxonium cation is located on a threefold axis and the second crystallographically independent chloride anion is located on a sixfold rotoinversion axis. Due to symmetry, the hydroxonium cation is disordered over two positions.

Project description:The title compound, [-Si(C(12)H(9))(2)OSi(CH(3))(2)O-](2), was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted crystallization of caesium bis-(biphenyl-2,2'-di-yl)fluoro-silicate from dimethyl-formamide. In the crystal, the mol-ecule is located on an inversion center and the siloxane ring adopts a twist-chair conformation with the two dimethyl-substituted Si atoms lying 0.7081 (5) Å out of the plane defined by the two bis-(biphenyl-2-yl)-substituted Si atoms and the four O atoms. Project description:The structure of the title compound, (C(6)H(14)N)(2)[CuCl(4)], consists of two inequivalent 1-methyl-piperidinium cations and a flattened tetra-hedral [CuCl(4)](2-) anion. Each organic cation exhibits a chair conformation with the methyl group in the equatorial position. They are segregated into alternating layers parallel to (100) and stacked along [100]. The first cation is arranged in parallel stacks in a herringbone pattern with rows of [CuCl(4)](2-) anions fitting between the stacks and with a Cl(-) ion directed into the inter-ior of the layer. The second organic cation forms distorted hcp layers that separate the other organic cation/[CuCl(4)](2-) slabs. N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding between the cations and the anions consolidates the crystal packing.
