Diaqua-(2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline-κN,N')(4-hydroxy-benzoato-κO,O')cobalt(II) nitrate dihydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C(7)H(5)O(3))(C(14)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)]NO(3)·2H(2)O, the Co(II) ion is six-coordinated by two N atoms of a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand, two carboxyl-ate O atoms of one 4-hydroxy-benzoate anion and two O atoms of two water mol-ecules, in a distorted octa-hedral environment; the two water mol-ecules occupy the apical positions. In the crystal structure, the ionic units and water mol-ecules are linked through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network. In addition, π-π inter-actions between a pyridine ring of the dmphen ligand and the benzene ring of the hydroxy-benzoate anion [centroid-centroid separation = 3.6861 (3) Å] are observed.

Project description:In the asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Mn(C(7)H(5)O(3))(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)]·0.5C(14)H(12)N(2), the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by a bidentate 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) mol-ecule, one water mol-ecule and two monodentate 2-hydroxy-benzoate anions in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The OH group of the 2-hydroxy-benzoate anion is disordered over two positions with site-occupancy factors of 0.5. The asymmetric unit is completed with by an uncoordinated half-mol-ecule of dmphen, disordered about a crystallographic twofold axis. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into a two-dimensional framework by O-H⋯N, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The packing of the structure is further stabilized by π-π stacking inter-actions involving dmphen mol-ecules, with centroid-centroid separations of 3.8027 (3) and 3.6319 (3) Å.

The crystal packing is stabilized by intra-molecular hydrogen bonding and π-π inter-actions between the dmphen rings of neighboring mol-ecules, with distances between their ring planes of 3.5670 (4) and 3.5181 (9) Å.

Within the mononuclear complex mol-ecule, intra-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions are observed, the first between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and a DHB ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7291 (16) Å], and the second between a coordinated phen mol-ecule and an uncoordinated phen ligand [centroid-centroid distance = 3.933 (2) Å]. Inter-molecular π-π stacking is observed between adjacent complexes [inter-planar distance = 3.461 (3) Å]. Intra- and inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed in the DHB ligands and between a water mol-ecule and DHB ligands, respectively. O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds are also observed in the DHB ligands and between uncoordinated phen mol-ecules and aqua ligands.

The uncoordinating phen mol-ecule is approximately parallel to the 1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium (Hphen) anion [dihedral angle = 3.3 (4)°]. The centroid-centroid distance of 3.801 (5) Å between pyridine rings suggests the existence of π-π stacking. The crystal structure contains an extensive network of classical O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. C-H⋯π inter-actions between phen and 4-hy-droxy-benzoate is also present in the crystal structure. In the crystal, the uncoordinating phen is equally disordered over two sites about an inversion center.

Project description:In the title compound, [Pb(C(7)H(4)FO(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·2H(2)O, the Pb(II) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two bidentate chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands and four O atoms from two 2-fluoro-benzoate ligands in an irregular polyhedral coordination geometry. Two carboxyl-ate O atoms and one F atom are each disordered over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.60 and 0.40. The dihedral angle between the two phen ligands is 89.9 (1)°. The mean inter-planar distances are alternatively of 3.44 (3) and 3.45 (3) Å, indicating π-π stacking inter-actions between the neighboring phen ligands. In the crystal, O-H⋯O, O-H⋯F and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the complex mol-ecules and uncoordinated water mol-ecules into a supra-molecular network.
