ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][Fe(2)Cl(6)O]·0.5CH(3)CH(2)OH, consists of one [Fe(phen)(3)](2+) cation (phen = 1,10-phen-anthroline), one [Fe(2)Cl(6)O](2-) anion and one half-mol-ecule of ethanol. In the cation, the Fe(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three phen ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. In the bent anion, two Fe(III) atoms are connected by a bridging oxide O atom [bridging angle = 160.6 (4)°], and each Fe(III) atom is also coordinated by three Cl atoms, completing a distorted tetra-hedral geometry.

Project description:In the title salt, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][Fe(2)Cl(6)O], the ionic components are linked into a two-dimensional supra-molecular layer by two pairs of C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.655 (4) and 3.498 (3) Å]. The salt is characterized as a mixed-valent Fe(II)-Fe(III) compound, in which an Fe(II) atom is coordinated by three phen ligands, forming a six-coordinated cationic entity and the anionic part is formed by two Fe(III) atoms in tetra-hedral coordination environments constructed by three chloride ions and one bridging oxide ligand. Intra-molecular C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds are observed.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)](2)[W(6)O(19)], consists of two [Cu(phen)(2)](+) cations (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and one typical [W(6)O(19)](2-) isopolyanion. The Cu(I) atom is coordinated by four N atoms from two bidentate chelating phen ligands in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The hexa-tungstate anion, lying on an inversion center and possessing the well known Lindqvist structure, is formed by six edge-sharing WO(6) octa-hedra, thus exhibiting an approximate O(h) symmetry. Three kinds of O atoms exist in the hexa-tungstate, viz. terminal O(a), bridging O(b) and central O(c) atoms. Besides the electrostatic effects between the anions and cations, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds exist between the phen ligands and O(a) or O(b) atoms. The mean inter-planar distances of 3.485 (1) and 3.344 (1) Å indicate π-π stacking inter-actions between neighboring phen ligands. These weak hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions lead to a two-dimensional network.

Project description:The title complex, [Fe(2)O(SO(4))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]·8H(2)O, contains two unique Fe(III) cations, one oxide anion, four 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, two coordinated sulfate anions and eight lattice water mol-ecules. Each Fe(III) ion has an approximate octa-hedral geometry, coordinated by four N atoms from two phen mol-ecules, two O atoms from oxide and sulfate anions, respectively. The parallel phen mol-ecules form two-dimensional supermolecules through π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.684 (3), 3.711 (3), 3.790 (3), 3.847 (3), 3.746 (3), 3.732 (3) and 3.729 (3) Å]. This architecture is further stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the lattice water mol-ecules and sulfate O atoms.

Project description:In the title coordination polymer, {[Cu(CN)(C(12)H(10)N(2))]·0.5C(2)H(5)OH}(n), there are two Cu(I) ions, two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands and two cyanide ions in the asymmetric unit along with a highly disordered ethanol solvent mol-ecule, which was modelled as being disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.829 (7):0.171 (7) ratio. The orientation/ordering of the C and N atoms of the cyanide ions could not be determined in the present refinement and they were modelled as being statistically disordered. Both copper ions are coordinated by an N,N'-bidentate phen ligand and two cyanide ligands, generating distorted tetra-hedral CuN(2)Q(2) (Q = C or N) tetra-hedra. The μ-cyanide ligands link the metal ions, forming a zigzag chain propagating in [001]. The chains are cross-linked by numerous aromatic π-π stacking contacts between adjacent phen rings [minimum centroid-centroid separation = 3.620 (3) Å].

Project description:The title complex, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(3))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·0.5CH(3)OH, is a carboxyl-ate-bridged dinuclear Mn(II) complex with four phenoxy-acetate ions and two 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules as ligands. Each of the four phenoxy-acetate anions bridges the pair of Mn atoms. The asymmetric unit is completed by a half-occupancy methanol solvent mol-ecule. Face-to-face π-π stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline molecules belonging to adjacent Mn(2) complexes, with an inter-planar separation of circa 3.4 Å, and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the dinuclear units into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(12)H(12)N(2))[Ta(2)F(10)O], the doubly protonated 5,6-dihydro-1,10-phenantroline-1,10-diium cation is located on a twofold rotation axis, whereas the isolated [Ta(2)OF(10)](2-) dianion has -1 symmetry. In the so far unknown dianion, the symmetry-related Ta(V) atoms are octa-hedrally coordinated by five F atoms and a bridging O atom, the latter being located on an inversion centre. The two pyridine rings in the cation make a dihedral angle of 22.8 (4)°. The cations and dianions are arranged in layers parallel to (100) and are connected through N-H⋯F and C-H⋯F hydrogen-bonding inter-actions into a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(NCS)(C(12)H(7)ClN(2))(2)][Zn(NCS)(3)(C(12)H(7)ClN(2))], contains two cations and two anions. In the cations, the Zn(II) ions have distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environments formed by four N atoms from two 2-chloro-1,10-phenanthroline (cphen) ligands and one N atom from a thio-cyanate ligand. The Zn(II) atoms in the complex anions also have distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environments, formed by two N atoms from a cphen ligand and three N atoms from three thio-cyanato ligands. The crystal packing exhibits π-π inter-actions between the rings of the cphen ligands [shortest centroid-centroid distance = 3.586 (5) Å] and short inter-molecular S⋯Cl [3.395 (5) Å] and S⋯S [3.440 (4) Å] contacts.

Project description:The title complex, {[Mn(C(14)H(8)O(4)S(2))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·0.5CH(3)OH·H(2)O}(n), has a one-dimensional chain structure in which the Mn(II) atom is six-coordinated by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands and two O atoms from two 2,2'-dithio-dibenzoate (L) ligands. The L ligands adopt a bis-(monodentate) (syn-anti) coordination mode and bridge adjacent Mn(II) centres, generating a chain running along [201]. Adjacent chains are linked into a two-dimensional network, parallel to (10), via inter-chain C-H⋯π and π-π stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.477 (1) Å] inter-actions. The structure also contains numerous hydrogen-bonding interactions, which further link the two-dimensional entities into a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ho(NO(3))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the ten-coordinate Ho(III) ion is chelated by four N atoms from two phenanthroline (phen) ligands and six O atoms from three bidentate nitrate groups. The environment around the Ho atom can be described as a distorted bicapped square anti-prism. Two phenanthroline ligands form a dihedral angle of 43.72 (13)°. Short inter-molecular distances between the centroids of the six-membered rings [3.6887 (14)-3.8374 (16) Å] indicate the existence of π-π inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into stacks extended in the [10] direction. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:Single crystals of the title heterometallic compound, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][Cr(NCS)(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](2)·3CH(3)CN·H(2)O or [Fe(Cphen)(3)][Cr(NCS)(4)(phen)](2)·3CH(3)CN·H(2)O, were pre-pared using the one-pot open-air reaction of iron powder, Reineckes salt and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in acetonitrile. The asymetric unit consists of an [Fe(phen)(3)](2+) cation, two [Cr(phen)(NCS)(4)](-) anions, three acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules and a water mol-ecule. The Fe and Cr atoms both show a slightly distorted octa-hedral FeN(6) and CrN(6) coordination geometry with adjacent angles in the range 79.67 (12)-95.21 (12)°. No classical hydrogen bonding involving the water molecule is observed.
