Tris(2,2'-bipyridine-κN:N')cobalt(III) trichloride tetra-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Co(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)]Cl(3)·4H(2)O, contains discrete [Co(bpy)(3)](3+) cations (bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine), Cl(-) anions and water mol-ecules. The [Co(bpy)(3)](3+) complex cation exhibits C(2) symmetry with the twofold axis through the central Co atom and bis-ecting one bpy ligand and one of the Cl(-) anions. The four solvent water mol-ecules and the remaining two Cl(-) anions lie on a mirror plane. Hydrogen-bond inter-actions define a two-dimensional layer structure parallel to (100), which consists of seven-membered [Cl(2)(H(2)O)(5)], eight-membered [Cl(4)(H(2)O)(4)] and ten-membered [Cl(2)(H(2)O)(8)] rings.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)][Fe(C(2)O(4))(3)]·H(2)O, con-sists of two discrete tris-(chelate) metal ions (Co(III)N(6) and Fe(III)O(6) chromophores) and a water mol-ecule. The structure is highly symmetrical; the Co(III) and Fe(III) ions occupy positions with site symmetry 3.2. The coordination polyhedra of the metal atoms have a nearly octa-hedral geometry with noticeable trigonal distortions. The Co-N and Fe-O bond lengths are equal by symmetry, viz. 1.981 (2) and 1.998 (4) Å, respectively. The cations and anions are arranged alternately along their threefold rotation axes parallel to [001], forming chains that are packed in a hexa-gonal manner. The water mol-ecules occupy voids between the chains. The crystal under investigation was an inversion twin.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)][W(CN)(8)], the Co atom (..2 site symmetry) is coordinated by six N atoms from three 2,2'-bipyridine ligands in an octa-hedral geometry; the Co-N bond distances range from 1.926 (2) to 1.939 (2) Å. The W (..2 site symmetry) metal center is coordinated by eight cyanide ligands, resulting in a dodeca-hedral conformation with W-C distances in the range 1.165 (3)-2.176 (3) Å. The cations and anions are linked into a three-demensional structure by weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(2)H(8)N(2))(3)](CO(3))I·4H(2)O, crystallizes with a [Co(en)(3)](3+) cation (en is ethane-1,2-diamine), CO(3) (2-) and I(-) anions and four water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. In the cation, the three rings formed by the ethyl-enediamine units and the Co(III) metal ion are in slightly distorted twist conformations. Numerous O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O, N-H⋯I and O-H⋯I inter-molecular hydrogen bonds between the cation and two anions in concert with the four water mol-ecules dominate the crystal packing and create a supra-molecular infinite three-dimensional framework.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, [Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)][Mn(2)(C(8)H(3)O(7)S)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, consists of mononuclear manganese(II) cations, dinuclear manganate(II) dianions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The dianion is located about an inversion center; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, a sulfonatoisophthalate group, a water mol-ecule along with two bridging water mol-ecules in an octa-hedral geometry. The cation lies on a twofold rotation axis; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water mol-ecules and a chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. A partially overlapped arrangement between the bipyridine ligands and the aromatic ring of the sulfoisophthalate group of adjacent anions is observed; the distance (3.357 Å) indicates π-π stacking. Hydrogen bonds, with the water mol-ecules serving as hydrogen-bond donors, lead to a three-dimensional network architecture.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Co(C(3)H(4)N(2))(6)](PF(6))(3)·6H(2)O, the Co(III) atom lies on a special position with site-symmetry and the P atom is located on a special position with site symmetry . The Co(III) atom has an almost ideal octa-hedral coordination formed by the N atoms of six imidazole ligands. The water mol-ecules form hydrogen-bonded helical chains propagating in [001] by O-H⋯O inter-actions with a distance of 2.913 (2) Å. They simultaneously inter-act as hydrogen-bond acceptors and donors with the cations and anions, respectively, resulting in the formation of a three-dimensional assembly. Weak C-H⋯F inter-actions further stabilize the crystal structure.

Project description:In the title complex, [PtBr(4)(C(10)H(8)N(2))], the Pt(IV) ion has a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination defined by two N atoms of the chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand and four bromide ions. As a result of the different trans effects of the N and Br atoms, the Pt-Br bonds trans to the N atom are slightly shorter than those to mutually trans Br atoms. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules are arranged in a V-shaped packing pattern along the b axis and stacked in columns along the a axis. In the columns, several inter-molecular π-π inter-actions between the pyridine rings are present. The shortest ring centroid-centroid distance is 3.921 (6) Å, with a dihedral angle of 1.6 (5)° between the ring planes. The complexes are connected by C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the b axis.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(12)H(7)N(2)O(4))(2)]·4H(2)O, the Ni atom is located at the centre of a distorted octa-hedron, formed by four N atoms and two O atoms from the same two tridentating chelated 6-carb-oxy-2,2'-bipyridine-6'-carboxyl-ate (L) ligands. Face-to-face π-stacking inter-actions between inversion-related pyridine rings with centroid-centroid distances of 3.548 (3) and 3.662 (3) Å (perpendicular distances between the respective rings are 3.314 and 3.438 Å) are found. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between water mol-ecules and L ligands form R(5) (3)(10), R(6) (5)(14) and R(5) (5)(12) rings and also a centrosymmetric cage-like unit of water mol-ecules, which link eight adjacent Ni(II) centers, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Project description:In the title complex, [Co(C(16)H(12)N(3)S)(3)]·4H(2)O, the central Co(III) atom is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. There are three N-[(anthracen-9-yl)-methyl-ene-amino]-thio-ureate ligands coordinated to the Co(III) atom via three imine N and three thio-amide S atoms. The Co-S and Co-N bond distances are in expected ranges [2.2194 (8)-2.2545 (8) and 1.926 (2)-1.985 (2)Å, respectively]. The endocyclic S-Co-N bond angles in the five-membered chelate rings range from 82.91 (7) to 85.33 (7)°. The structure contains four water mol-ecules which are disordered over 12 sites and link the complex mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network through N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N, and O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The new heterometallic title complex, [Co(NCS)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(NH(3))(2)][Cr(NCS)(4)(NH(3))(2)]·2CH(3)CN, has been prepared using the open-air reaction of cobalt powder, Reineckes salt and 2,2'-bipyridine (dpy) in acetonitrile. The crystal structure consists of discrete cationic [Co(NCS)(2)(NH(3))(2)(dpy)](+) and anionic [Cr(NCS)(4)(NH(3))(2)](-) building blocks, both with 2 symmetry, and acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules, which are linked together by N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming extended supra-molecular chains. Furthermore, N-H⋯S, C-H⋯S and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds inter-link neighbouring chains into a three-dimensional framework. The Co atom is in an elongated octa-hedral coordination environment with two N atoms from the dpy ligands and two NCS-groups in the equatorial plane and with two NH(3) mol-ecules at the axial positions. The Cr(III) ion is octa-hedraly coordinated by two NH(3) mol-ecules at the axial positions and four NCS-groups in the equatorial plane. Intensity statistics indicated non-merohedral twinning with the twin matrix [100; 0[Formula: see text]0; [Formula: see text]0[Formula: see text]]. The refined ratio of the twin components is 0.530 (1):0.470 (1).

Inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.788 (1) and 3.957 (1) Å] are present in the crystal structure.
