Chlorido{5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-[1,2-phenyl-enebis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenolato-κO,N,N',O'}manganese(III).

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Mn(C(22)H(18)N(2)O(2))Cl], the Mn(III) center is in a distorted square-pyramidal configuration; the basal plane is formed by the N(2)O(2) donors of the tetra-dentate Schiff base dianion, with the two phenol O atoms and two imine N atoms each mutually cis. The chloride ion occupies the apical coordination site. The dihedral angle between the two outer phenolate rings of the tetra-dentate ligand is 18.24 (9)°. The central benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 13.71 (8) and 30.50 (8)° with the two outer phenolate rings. In the crystal structure, weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions link the mol-ecules into screw helices along the b direction. These helices are further connected by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions into a three-dimensional network. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C-H⋯π inter-actions involving the central benzene ring.

Project description:In the title complex, [Mn(C(20)H(12)Cl(2)N(2)O(2))Cl(CH(3)OH)], the Mn(III) atom is in an octa-hedral coordination geometry with the N(2)O(2) atoms of the doubly-deprotonated Schiff base forming a square around it. The chloride ion and the O atom of the methanol mol-ecule occupy the other two positions of the octa-hedron. The dihedral angle between the two outer phenolate rings of the tetra-dentate ligand is 20.27 (12)°. The central phenyl-ene ring makes dihedral angles of 18.62 (12) and 6.02 (12)° with the two outer phenolate rings. Hydrogen bonds of the O-H⋯Cl type link the mol-ecules into an infinite chain along [010]. These chains are arranged into sheets parallel to the ab plane and these sheets are connected by weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions into a three-dimensional network. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Mn(C(28)H(30)N(2)O(2))Cl(H(2)O)][Mn(C(28)H(30)N(2)O(2))Cl(CH(3)OH)], contains two discrete Mn(III) complexes of a Schiff base ligand, with an N(2)O(2) donor set. Both Mn(III) centers are in a distorted octa-hedral geometry with the N(2)O(2) donor atoms of the tetra-dentate Schiff base dianion in the equatorial plane. The axial positions in the coordination environment of one Mn(III) complex are occupied by a chloride ion and a water mol-ecule, but a methanol mol-ecule replaces the water mol-ecule in the other complex. The coordinated water mol-ecule takes part in an O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bond between the two Mn(III) complexes. In the crystal structure, O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into infinite one-dimensional chains along the [100] direction. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds together with weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. A C-H⋯π inter-action is also observed in the crystal structure.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title Schiff base complex, [Mn(C(36)H(46)N(2)O(2))Cl], comprises two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. The Mn(III) centre in each mol-ecule adopts a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Each Mn(III) ion is coordinated by the N(2)O(2) atoms of the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand forming the basal plane and the coordinated chloride anion occupies the apical position. Four bifurcated intra-molecular C-H⋯O contacts stabilize the mol-ecular structure. In the crystal packing, mol-ecules are linked into dimers via inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl contacts and further stabilized by C-H⋯π inter-actions. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin, the refined ratio of the twin components being 0.441 (1):0.559 (1).

The bridging Mn(2)O(2) group is built of phen-oxy groups, and is asymmetric, with an Mn-O distances of 1.9002 (13) and 2.6236 (14) Å. A substantial cavity between the two Mn atoms [Mn⋯Mn = 3.5082 (4) Å] is produced by the formation of the dimer. In the crystal, an extended network of O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions stabil-izes the structure.

Project description:In the title complex, [Ni(C(20)H(14)N(2)O(4))]·2H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is in an essentially square-planar geometry involving an N(2)O(2) atom set of the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand. The Ni atom lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis. The asymmetric unit contains one half-mol-ecule of the complex and a water mol-ecule. An inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond forms a four-membered ring, producing an R(1) (2)(4) ring motif involving a bifurcated hydrogen bond to the phenolate O atoms of the complex mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by ?-? stacking inter-actions, with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.5750?(11)-3.7750?(11)?Å. As a result of the twofold symmetry, the central benzene ring makes the same dihedral angle of 15.75?(9)° with the two outer benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the two hydroxy-phenyl rings is 13.16?(5)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into infinite one-dimensional chains by directed four-membered O-H?O-H inter-actions along the c axis and are further connected by C-H?O and ?-? stacking into a three-dimensional network. An inter-esting feature of the crystal structure is the short Ni?O, O?O and N?N inter-actions which are shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii of the relevant atoms. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and by ?-? stacking inter-actions.
