Tris(tert-butyl isocyanide-κC)carbonylnickel(0).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Ni(C(5)H(9)N)(3)(CO)], was prepared from Ni(CO)(4) and a tenfold excess of tert-butyl isocyanide. It crystallizes with two symmetry-independent mol-ecules per asymmetric unit. The central Ni atom of each independent mol-ecule has a nearly perfect tetra-hedral coordination environment, comprising one carbon monoxide and three isocyanide ligands. The title compound is the first structurally characterized Ni(0) compound with a mixed CO/RNC coordination.

Project description:The title compound, C(42)H(63)O(4)P, was isolated from the leaves of Vitex negundo. Two of the tert-butyl groups are disordered over two orientations with occupancy ratios of 0.57 (1):0.43 (1) and 0.67 (1):0.33 (1). Several intra-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions are observed in the mol-ecular structure.

Palladium-Catalyzed Synthesis of Amidines via <i>tert</i>-Butyl isocyanide Insertion.

Project description:Para-substituted iodobenzenes were reacted with tert-butyl isocyanide and piperidine as nucleophiles in the presence of palladium-diphosphine catalysts. Both single and double insertion of the isocyanide was observed and the corresponding amidines and ketimine-amidines were obtained in yields of practical interest. With the increase of the tert-butyl isocyanide/iodobenzene ratio, 100% chemoselectivity toward the ketimine-amidine was achieved. The formation of the products was rationalized on the basis of a catalytic cycle analogous to that of the aminocarbonylation reactions. Clear connection was found between the activity and the electronic structure of the proposed catalyst Pd(diphosphine) by computational studies, as the more negative partial charge on palladium resulted in higher conversion. Among five isocyanide substrates, only tert-butyl isocyanide was proved to be active.

Nickel-catalyzed allylic carbonylative coupling of alkyl zinc reagents with tert-butyl isocyanide.

Project description:Transition metal-catalyzed carbonylation with carbon nucleophiles is one of the most prominent methods to construct ketones, which are highly versatile motifs prevalent in a variety of organic compounds. In comparison to the well-established palladium catalytic system, the nickel-catalyzed carbonylative coupling is much underdeveloped due to the strong binding affinity of CO to nickel. By leveraging easily accessible tert-butyl isocyanide as the CO surrogate, we present a nickel-catalyzed allylic carbonylative coupling with alkyl zinc reagent, allowing for the practical and straightforward preparation of synthetically important β,γ-unsaturated ketones in a linear-selective fashion with excellent trans-selectivity under mild conditions. Moreover, the undesired polycarbonylation process which is often encountered in palladium chemistry could be completely suppressed. This nickel-based method features excellent functional group tolerance, even including the active aryl iodide functionality to allow the orthogonal derivatization of β,γ-unsaturated ketones. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds via a π-allylnickel intermediate.

Project description:The reaction of (η(3)-all-yl)[(1,2,5,6-η)-cyclo-octa-1,5-diene]rhodium(I) with tris-(2,4-di-tert-butyl-phen-yl)phosphite in toluene produces the title compound, [Rh(C(42)H(62)O(3)P)(C(8)H(12))]·C(7)H(8), by spontaneous metallation at one of the nonsubstituted phenyl ortho-C atoms of the phosphite mol-ecule. The coordination geometry at the Rh(I) ion is distorted square-planar. The toluene solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two different orientations, with site-occupation factors of 0.810 (2) and 0.190 (2).

One ligand binds in the κ(3) mode, throuh three N atoms of the pyrazolyl rings, the other ligand coordinates through two N atoms of the pyrazolyl rings and the H atom attached to the central B via an agostic-type inter-action through the B-H group of the second Tp(tBu,Me) ligand, giving an overall distorted octa-hedral geometry. One of the tert-butyl groups is disordered over two sites, with occupancies of 0.65 and 0.35.
