ABSTRACT: In the centrosymmetric tetra-nuclear title compound, [Sn(4)(C(4)H(9))(8)(C(7)H(5)O(3))(4)O(2)], one of the two independent Sn atoms is five-coordinate in a cis-C(2)SnO(3) trigonal-bipyramidal geometry [C-Sn-C = 142.7 (1)°]; the geometry is distorted owing to a long Sn⋯O(double bond) inter-action [Sn⋯O = 2.862 (1) Å]. The other Sn atom has a bent R(2)Sn skeleton [C-Sn-C = 144.0 (1)°], but the geometry is best regarded as being a trans-C(2)SnO(4) octa-hedron as the Sn-O(single bond) inter-action is shorter [Sn-O = 2.674 (1) Å].

The Sn(IV) coordination geometries are distorted SnO(3)C(2) trigonal-bipyramidal and distorted SnO(4)C(2) octa-hedral. The three-coordinate μ(3)-oxido bridging O atom in the Sn(2)O(2) ring is attached to three Sn atoms. All non-H atoms, with the exception of the Sn-bonded octyl groups, lie approximately on a non-crystallographic mirror plane.

The coordination polyhedron about the two central Sn atoms is distorted trigonal-bipyramidal, whilst the two peripheral metal atoms bonded to the carboxyl-ate groups have a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected by long Sn⋯O contacts [3.139 (11) Å], forming chains along [011].

The titanium atom is N,O,O',O''-chelated by the nitrilo-triacetate and O,O'-chelated by the peroidxo group and is coordinated to the bridging O atom in an overall penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry. The O atom of one of the carboxyl-ate -CO(2) groups binds to the water-coordinated Cu atom, whose coordination polyhedron is an elongated octa-hedron. Adjacent tetra-nuclear mol-ecules are linked through the coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

In the crystal, bridging nitrate anions lead to infinite chains propagating in [111]. A number of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds may stabilize the structure.

One of the triphenyl-phosphite benzene rings in one of the mol-ecules is disordered over two positions with refined site occupancies of 0.60 (3) and 0.40 (3). In the crystal packing, the mol-ecules are stacked along a axis. Intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds stabilize the mol-ecular structure and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions further stabilize the crystal structure. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin, the refined ratio of the twin components being 0.618 (1):0.382 (1).
