ABSTRACT: The title europium(III) carboxyl-ate, [Eu(3)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(9)](n), has three independent Eu atoms, two of which are eight-coordinate in a square-anti-prismatic coordination geometry, whereas the third is nine-coordinate in a tricapped trigonal-prismatic coordination geometry. The metal atoms are linked by two bidentate and seven tridentate methyl-benzoate groups into a linear chain running along the b-axis direction.

Project description:The title samarium coordination polymer, [Sm(3)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(9)](n), was obtained by the hydro-thermal reaction of Sm(NO(3))(3) with 4-methyl-benzoic acid in alkaline aqueous solution. In the asymmetric unit, there are three crystallographically independent Sm(III) ions, two of which are eight-coordinate in a distorted square-anti-prismatic environment, while the third is nine-coordinate in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic coordination. The metal centres are coordinated and bridged by four tridentate, three bidentate and two monodentate methyl-benzoate anions, forming polymeric chains running parallel to the b axis.

The metal atoms are surrounded by eight O atoms in a square-anti-prismatic environment. There are two independent formula units in the asymmetric unit. The S atoms of two of the four DMSO mol-ecules are disordered in a 0.926 (3):0.074 (3) ratio.

The anions self-assemble into polymeric chains via W-S-Ag bridges having a [AgS(4)W] repeat unit; the W-Ag-W and Ag-W-Ag angles are 161.657 (17) and 153.978 (9)°, respectively. The title complex is isostructural with the Y, Yb, Eu, Nd, La and Dy isomorphs.

Project description:Hexa-methyl-phospho-ramide (hmp), tetra-thio-tungstate, silver sulfide and cerium nitrate were self-assembled to form a one-dimensional anionic [Ag(4)W(4)S(16)](n) (4n-) chain in the title compound, {[Ce(NO(3))(2)(C(6)H(18)N(3)OP)(4)][AgWS(4)]}(n). The asymmetric unit contains four crystallographically independent [Ce(hmp)(4)(NO(3))(2)](+) cations, which leads to a one-dimensional polymeric anionic chain having a tetra-valent [W(4)S(16)Ag(4)] repeat unit. Each central Ce atom is coordinated by eight O atoms from two chelating nitrate and four hmp ligands, which gives rise to a distorted square-anti-prismatic structure. The polymeric chain with average W-Ag-W and Ag-W-Ag bond angles of 163.75 and 151.84°, respectively, presents a distorted linear configuration. The title complex with a non-centrosymmetric structure, is analogous to the Yb, Y, Eu, Nd, La and Dy isomorphs, which exhibit centrosymmetric structures.

The polymeric anionic chain, with Mo-Ag-Mo and Ag-Mo-Ag angles of 161.911 (13) and 154.014 (13)°, respectively, presents a distorted linear configuration. The title complex is isostructural with the W analogue.

The polymeric anionic chain, with Mo-Ag-Mo and Ag-Mo-Ag angles of 161.916 (13) and 153.915 (13)°, respectively, presents a distorted linear configuration. The cations and the anions are linked via weak C-H⋯S hydrogen-bonding inter-actions while the cations exhibit inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions. The structure is isotypic with the corresponding W, Yb, Eu, Nd, La and Dy complexes.

Project description:The reaction of lead(II) acetate and 3-methyl-benzoic acid (MBA) in aqueous solution yielded the title polymer, [Pb(C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)(H(2)O)](n). The asymmetric unit contains two Pb(II) atoms, four MBA ligands and two water mol-ecules. Each Pb(II) cation is hepta-coordinated and chelated by four carboxyl-ate O atoms from two MBA ligands. The Pb atoms are bridged through the carboxyl-ate O atoms from another two MBA ligands, leading to a central Pb(2)O(2) core. The Pb-O bond lengths are in the range 2.325 (3)-2.757 (4) Å. The intra- and inter-dimer Pb⋯Pb distances are 4.2942 (3) and 4.2283 (3) Å, respectively, indicating little direct metal-metal inter-action. The coordinating water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate O atoms are involved in extensive O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The complex has an extended ladder-like chain structure and the chains are assembled by hydrogen bonds and π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.6246 (3) Å] into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

The metal atom lies on a mirror plane and the L anion, hmt ligand and water mol-ecule all lie across crystallographic mirror planes. Each hmt ligand bridges two neighboring Ag(I) ions, resulting in the formation of a chain structure along the b axis. The chains are linked into a three-dimensional framework by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
