ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(17)H(16)OS, contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules, one of which is nearly planar, the outer rings making dihedral angles of 1.51 (3) and 1.09 (3)° with the central ring. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into chains parallel to the a axis. π-π Contacts between the thioxanthone rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.798 (3) and 3.781 (3) Å] may further stabilize the structure.
