(Benzoato-κO)chlorido[(-)-sparteine-κN,N']zinc(II).

ABSTRACT: The title complex, [Zn(C(7)H(5)O(2))Cl(C(15)H(26)N(2))], used for the magnetic dilution of the analogous Cu(II) complex, was synthesized through a direct synthesis route. The coordination geometry around Zn(II) is best described as distorted tetra-hedral, the largest deviation arising from the (-)-sparteine ligand, as is invariably found in complexes containing this rather rigid mol-ecule. The benzoate anion behaves as a monodentate ligand, with a non-coordinating Zn⋯O separation of 2.969 (5) Å. Mol-ecules are packed in the crystal without significant inter-molecular inter-actions. The shortest Zn⋯Zn separation [6.8186 (7) Å] is observed between mol-ecules related through the 2(1) screw axis. This is an important feature for the magnetic behaviour of the Cu(II) analogue, which is intended for modeling isolated metal centers in the active site of type 1 blue copper proteins.

Project description:The Zn atom in the title compound, [Zn(C(7)H(5)O(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], is five-coordinate in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment involving two O atoms of two monodentate benzoates, two N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule and one O atom of a water mol-ecule. The axial positions are occupied by a carboxyl-ate O atom from the benzoate ligand and an N atom from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand [N-Zn-O = 146.90 (7)°]. The water mol-ecule forms an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond; an inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond gives rise to a dimer.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(8)H(5)O(3))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)](n), the Zn(II) ion is tetrahedrally coordinated by two formyl-benzoate (FB) and one isonicotinamide (INA) ligands while symmetry-related FB ligands bridge adjacent Zn(II) ions, forming polymeric chains along the b axis. The carboxyl-ate groups in the two FB ions are twisted away from the attached benzene ring by 9.07 (2) and 26.2 (2)°. The two benzene rings of the FB ions are oriented at a dihedral angle of 81.30 (5)°. In the crystal, adjacent polymeric chains inter-act via N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, π-π contacts between the formyl-benzoate rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7736 (8) Å] and weak C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Zn(C(8)H(7)O(3))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)], contains three crystallographically independent mol-ecules with similar configurations. The Zn(II) cation is coordinated by two N atoms of two nicotinamide ligands and three O atoms from two 4-meth-oxy-benzoate anions in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In each independent mol-ecule, one Zn-O bond distance [2.5181 (12), 2.5931 (12) and 2.4085 (12) Å for the three mol-ecules] is significantly longer than the other two. In the crystal structure, extensive N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding links the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π contacts between the pyridine rings and between the pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.7655 (9) and 3.8453 (10) Å, respectively] further stabilize the crystal structure.

The four O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Zn atom form a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement, while the slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by the two N atoms of the NA ligands in the axial positions. In complex A, [Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)], each Zn cation is chelated by a 4-methyl-benzoate (PMB) anion and coordinated by a water mol-ecule, and is further bridged by two PMB anions in a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In complex B, [Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)], each Zn(II) cation is coordinated by a monodentate PMB anion and one nicotinamide (NA) ligand, and is further bridged by two PMB anions in a tetra-hedral geometry. Weak intra-mol-ecular π-π stacking between adjacent benzene rings is observed in complex B, the centroid-centroid distance being 3.710 (2) Å. Extensive O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure. The crystal studied was a racemic twin; the minor twin component refined to 38%.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(7)H(4)FO(2))(2)(C(5)H(6)N(2))(2)] or [Zn(fa)(2)(2-pa)(2)] (Hfa is 2-fluoro-benzoic acid and 2-pa = pyridin-2-amine), the asymmetric unit contains one Zn(II) cation, two fa ligands and two 2-pa ligands, wherein the Zn(II) displays a distorted tetra-hedral geometry, being surrounded by two monodentate fa ligands with Zn-O distances of 1.962 (2) and 1.976 (3) Å, and by two 2-pa ligands with distances involving pyridyl N atoms of 2.069 (2) and 2.056 (2) Å. The F atoms of the fa ligands are equally disordered over two sites, viz. the 2- and 6-positions of fa. The mononuclear complex mol-ecules are joined by N-H⋯O and N-H⋯F hydrogen bonds into a two-dimensional layer, which is further constructed into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network by weak C-H⋯F inter-actions and effective π-π stacking [centroid-centroid separation of 3.74 (3) Å] between the inter-layer aromatic rings and adjacent heterocycles.
