ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Co(C(10)H(9)NO(5)S)(H(2)O)(3)]·2H(2)O, is a cobalt-Schiff base complex derived from taurine. There are two complex mol-ecules and four solvent water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The central Co atom is six coordinated by two O atoms and one N atom of the ligand and three O atoms of water mol-ecules, forming a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The crystal structure is stabilized by several O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, [CdCu(2)(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(5))(2)(H(2)O)(3)]·2H(2)O, the Cu(II) atoms are in a square plane of N(2)O(2) atoms contributed by the tetra-dentate Schiff base trianion. The Cu(II) atoms are coordinated by one phenolate O atom, one imine N atom, one amido N atom and one carboxyl-ate O atom. The Cd(II) atom is connected via the carboxyl-ate groups, forming a heterotrinuclear Cu(II)-Cd(II)-Cu(II) system. The Cd(II) atom is seven-coordinate in a penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry with four O atoms from two carboxyl-ate groups and three aqua ligands. The heterotrinuclear mol-ecules are linked to the uncoordinated water mol-ecules by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional framework.

The Co(II) atom is in a distorted penta-gonal-bipyramidal coordination environment with two N atoms and two O atoms from a tetradentate 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxyl-ate ligand and one O atom from a water mol-ecule forming the penta-gonal plane, and two O atoms from two water mol-ecules occupying axial positions. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

Copper has a square-planar coordination with two N and two O atoms of the quadridentate chiral Schiff base ligand. The Cd(2+) ion is coordinated by six aqua ligands with a slightly distorted octa-hedral configuration. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the title complex, [Co(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)(H(2)O)(4)](C(8)H(5)O(3))(2)·2H(2)O, contains one-half of the complex cation with the Co(II) ion located on an inversion center, a 4-formyl-benzoate (FB) counter-anion and an uncoordinated water mol-ecule. The four O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Co(II) ion form a slightly distorted square-planar arrangement with an average Co-O bond length of 2.086 Å; the slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by the two N atoms of the isonicotinamide (INA) ligands at a slightly longer distance [2.1603 (14) Å] in the axial positions. The dihedral angle between the carboxyl-ate group and the attached benzene ring is 5.93 (13)°, while the pyridine and benzene rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 3.09 (6)°. In the crystal structure, O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π Contacts between the benzene and pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.758 (1) Å] may further stabilize the crystal structure.

The carboxyl-ate donor unit, coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules inter-act through O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a tightly-held three-dimensional cage-like network.
