Project description:The title compound, (BenzMIm)Br (BenzMIm=1-benzyl-3-methyl-imidazo-l-ium), C11H13N2 +·Br-, was obtained as single crystals directly from a pure and liquid sample of the compound over several weeks. The mol-ecular structure of (BenzMIm)Br consists of separated bromide anions and 1-benzyl-3-methyl-imidazolium cations connected via short C-H⋯Br contacts. The compound exhibits a relatively low melting point (m.p. = 72°C) and is a supercooled, highly viscous transparent liquid at ambient conditions. The title compound crystallizes with two unique ion pairs in the asymmetric unit of the orthorhombic unit cell.

In both cations, the mirror plane passes through the nitrogen atom and two methyl groups; in the anion, the mirror plane passes through two carbon and two oxygen atoms. Project description:The title salt, C8H12NO(+)·Br(-)·H2O, is isomorphous with the chloride analogue [Seethalakshmi et al. (2013). Acta Cryst. E69, o835-o836]. In the solid state, the cations, anions and water mol-ecules are inter-linked by a network of O-H⋯O, O-H⋯Br and C-H⋯Br inter-actions. The water mol-ecule makes two O-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds, generating [010] zigzag chains of alternating water mol-ecules and bromide anions. The cation is involved in two inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl inter-actions in the chloride salt, whereas three inter-molecular C-H⋯Br inter-actions are observed in the title bromide salt. This additional inter-molecular C-H⋯Br inter-action links the adjacent water and bromide zigzag chains via cationic mol-ecules. In addition, weak π-π stacking inter-actions are observed between pyridinium rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.5664 (13) Å].

Project description:The title compound, C(17)H(19)N(4) (+)·Br(-), is built up from 1,3-bis-[(6-methyl-2-pyridin-yl)meth-yl]imidazolium cations and bromide anions. Each of two 6-methyl-2-pyridyl rings is rotated out of the imidazole plane, making dihedral angles of 79.90 (9) and 86.40 (9)°. The packing is consolidated by aromatic π-π inter-actions between the pyridine rings of neighbouring mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distance = 3.554 (2) Å] and by weak C-H⋯N and C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds.
