[μ-N,N,N',N'-Tetra-kis-(2-pyridyl-meth-yl)pentane-1,5-diamine]-bis-[dichlorido-copper(II)] sesquihydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title dinuclear copper complex, [Cu(2)Cl(4)(C(29)H(34)N(6))]·1.5H(2)O, both Cu(II) ions are coordinated in a slightly distorted square-pyramidal environment in which the N atoms of the dipicolyl-amine group and a chloride ligand form the basal plane. The apical position is occupied by a second chloride atom. The Cu-N distances involving the pyridine N atoms differ slightly from each other and the Cu-N distance involving the tertiary N atom is the longest. The apical Cu-Cl distance is elongated compared to its basal counterpart due to typical Jahn-Teller distortion. In the crystal structure, complex and water mol-ecules are linked via inter-molecular O-H⋯O and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into chains along [001]. One of the water mol-ecules was refined with half occupancy.

The unique Cu(II) ion is coordinated in a slightly distorted square-pyramidal environment in which the N atoms of the dipicolyl-amine group and a chloride ligand form the basal plane. The apical position is occupied by a second chloride atom. While the Cu-N distances of the pyridine N atoms are the same within expermental error, the Cu-N distance to the tertiary N atom is slightly elongated. The apical Cu-Cl distance is elongated due to typical Jahn-Teller distortion. One of the water O atoms was refined as disordered over two sites with occupancies 0.734 (17):0.266 (17) and another with half occupancy. H atoms for the disordered solvent atoms were not included in the refinement.

A distorted square-pyramidal geometry is formed by the dipicolyl-amine group of the ligand via the N atoms in a meridional fashion and two O atoms of the nitrate ligands with short Cd-O distances. The coordination is completed by two loosely bound O atoms of the nitrate ligands.

The two Mn(2+) ions are bridged by the dual tri-dentate N,N,N',N'-tetra-kis(2-pyridylmeth-yl)hexane-1,6-diamine ligand to form a dinuclear complex. Each Mn atom is five-coordinated in an approximately square-pyramidal geometry by three N atoms from the ligand and two Cl atoms. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mn(ClO(4))(C(30)H(34)N(6))]ClO(4), consists of a cationic [Mn(ClO(4))(C(30)H(34)N(6))](+) complex and a perchlorate anion. In the complex, the Mn(2+) ion is seven-coordinated in an approximately penta-gonal-bipyramidal environment by six N atoms from the hexa-dentate N,N,N',N'-tetra-kis(2-pyridylmeth-yl)-cyclo-hexane-1,2-diamine (tpdach) ligand and one O atom from a perchlorate anion. The complex displays inter-molecular ?-? inter-actions between adjacent pyridine rings (centroid-to-centroid distance 4.133?Å). Moreover, there are weak intra- and inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The Cl atom and two O atoms of the perchlorate are disordered, with a site-occupancy factor of 0.59?(2) for the major component.

Each manganese(II) cation is coordinated by two terminally N-bonded seleno-cyanate anions and four bpe ligands within a slightly distorted octa-hedron. The manganese(II) cations are linked by the bpe ligands into chains that are further connected by these ligands into layers. These layers are stacked, forming cavities in which additional bpe solvent molecules are embedded.
