ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(16)H(14)O, the asymmetric unit consists of three crystallographically independent mol-ecules. The anthracene units are essentially planar, with maximum deviations of 0.165 (1), 0.153 (1) and 0.045 (1) Å in the three mol-ecules. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked via inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Further stabilization is provided by C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(21)H(27)NO, contains two mol-ecules (A and B). In mol-ecule A, the central ring of the anthrone unit adopts a shallow boat conformation and the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 18.96 (7)°. In mol-ecule B, the central ring is close to being planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.078 Å) and the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 7.82 (7)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming zigzag C(7) chains of alternating A and B mol-ecules running parallel to [100]. The structure also features weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(28)H(18)O(2), was originally determined by Ehrenberg [(1967 ▶). Acta Cryst. 22, 482-487] using intensity data obtained from Weissenberg photographs. The current determination provides a crystal and mol-ecular structure with a significantly higher precision and presents standard uncertainties on geometric parameters which are not available from the original work. The mol-ecule lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis which bis-ects the C-C bond [1.603 (3) Å] which joins the two anthracen-9(10H)-one units.

Effect of Substitution of Hydrogen Atoms in the Molecules of Anthrone and Anthraquinone.

Project description:The geometry of anthrone and anthraquinone-natural substances of plant origin-was investigated under the substitution of hydrogen atoms in side aromatic ring and, for anthrone, also in the central ring. A significant influence of substitution on geometry expressed by the angle between the side rings was shown. The geometry changes are connected with the changes of electron density and aromaticity of the anthrone and anthraquinone rings. The flexibility of the investigated compounds was confirmed by comparison of the optimized molecules and the molecules in the crystal state where the packing forces can influence the molecular geometry.

Synthesis and screening of 3-substituted thioxanthen-9-one-10,10-dioxides.

Project description:This manuscript describes methods appropriate for the parallel synthesis of libraries based on the tricyclic thioxanthen-9-one-10,10-dioxide scaffold. The novel compounds were synthesized from previously reported 3-chlorothioxanthen-9-one-10,10-dioxide and commercially available 3-carboxylic acid thioxanthen-9-one-10,10-dioxide. The library members were screened for activity in a fluorescence polarization assay for inhibitors of BRCT domains of breast cancer gene 1 and in cell-based secreted alkaline phosphatase reported replicon system for activity against hepatitis C virus.

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence and high-contrast mechanochromism of anthrone-based donor-acceptor systems.

Project description:The development of materials that emit in the deep-red to near-infrared region of the spectrum has attracted significant attention due to their potential as optical sensing and imaging reagents in biology. Herein, we report the synthesis and optoelectronic characterization of four anthraquinone-based emitters, T-tBuCz-AQ, T-MeOCz-AQ, C-tBuCz-AQ, and C-MeOCz-AQ, and two pyrazoloanthrone-based emitters, tBuCz-PA and DMAC-PA. Depending on the donor, these compounds emit in the spectral range between 640 and 750 nm in the neat film, while the emission of the 10 wt% doped films in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is blue-shifted between 600 and 700 nm and has low photoluminescence quantum yields between 2.6% and 6.6%. Of these compounds, T-tBuCz-AQ, T-MeOCz-AQ, and C-tBuCz-AQ exhibited thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) in 10 wt% doped films in PMMA, while the crystals of T-tBuCz-AQ also showed TADF. Compound tBuCz-PA showed a high-contrast and reversible photoluminescence (PL) response upon mechanical grinding and hexane fuming.

Project description:A highly enantioselective Michael addition reaction of anthrone with nitroalkenes by chiral tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine catalysts was investigated as a novel topic. The stereoselective conversion progressed smoothly by employing 10 mol% of the catalyst and afforded the corresponding Michael adducts with acceptable to high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee) and very high yields (up to 96%).

Polymorphism and pseudosymmetry of 10,10'-oxybis(9-thia-10-hydro-10-boraanthracene).

Project description:We have encountered two polymorphs of the title compound, C24H16B2OS2, both of which display almost the same unit-cell parameters. Compound (I) crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group P21 with four mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. These mol-ecules are related by pseudosymmetry. As a result, the space group looks like P21/c, but the structure cannot be refined successfully in that space group. Compound (II) on the other hand crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group P21/c with only two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The crystals studied for (I) and (II) were both non-merohedral twins.
