9β-Hy-droxy-1β,10α-ep-oxy-parthenolide.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(15)H(20)O(5) (systematic name: 5-hydroxy-1a,4a-dimethyl-7-methyleneperhydrodioxireno[5,6:9,10]cyclo-deca[1,2-b]furan-8-one), was obtained by the reaction of 3-chloro-perbenzoic acid with 9β-hy-droxy-parthenolide. The five-membered ring adopts a twist conformation, whereas the ten-membered ring displays an approximate chair-chair conformation. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into chains propagating along the b axis by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C(17)H(22)O(6), was semi-synthesized from 9-hy-droxy-arthenolide, which was isolated from the chloro-form extract of the aerial parts of Anvillea radiata. The mol-ecule contains fused five- and ten-membered rings: the five-membered lactone ring has a twisted conformation, whereas the ten-membered ring displays an approximate chair-chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the rings is 24.76 (9)°.

Each mol-ecule contains two six-membered rings and one five-membered ring. The five-membered ring displays an envelope conformation with the C atom linking the epoxy group as the flap, while the two six-membered rings show half-chair conformations. The two independent mol-ecules are linked by an O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. These dimers are further linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming supra-molecular chains running along the a axis.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C21H28O5, is composed of three six-membered rings (A/B/C) and a five-membered ring (D). Ring A adopts a 1α-sofa conformation, while rings B and C adopt chair conformations. Cyclo-pentane ring D adopts a 14α-envelope conformation. In the crystal, O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of ribbons running along the a axis. The structure is further consolidated by C-H⋯O inter-actions, which link the molecules head-to-tail into ribbons along the a axis.

Intra-molecular as well as inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds can be observed in the crystal structure, with the latter connecting the mol-ecules into chains along the crystallographic b axis.
