Bis(2,2'-bipyridine)-1κN,N';3κN,N'-hexa-μ-methacrylato-1:2κO:O';2:3κO:O'-(nitrato-2κO,O')-1,3-dicobalt(II)-2-terbium(III).

ABSTRACT: In the title trinuclear cobalt-terbium complex, [Co(2)Tb(C(4)H(5)O(2))(6)(NO(3))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], the central Tb(III) and each of the Co(II) ions are bridged by three carboxyl-ate groups of the methacrylate anions. The Tb(III) cation is coordinated by six O atoms from six methacrylate anions and two O atoms from a chelating nitrate anion in a distorted square-anti-prismatic geometry. Each Co(II) ion is coordinated by three O atoms from three methyl-acrylate anions and two N atoms of a 2,2'-bypiridine ligand in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal structure, π-π stacking between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.682 (8) and 3.760 (8) Å] is observed and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is also present.

The hepta-coordinated lead(II) ion is bonded to two bidentate and one monodentate nitrate ion and one bidentate 6-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine (mbpy) ligand. The six-coordinate lead(II) ion is bonded to one bidentate and two monodentate nitrate anions and one mbpy ligand. In the crystal, bridging nitrate anions lead to infinite chains propagating in [111]. A number of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds may stabilize the structure.

Project description:The hydro-thermal reaction of CoCl(2)·6H(2)O, 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and K(3)[Fe(CN)(6)] in deionized water yielded the title cyanide-bridged trinuclear cluster, [Co(2)Fe(CN)(8)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(4)]·4H(2)O or [{Co(III)(phen)(CN)(4)}(2){Fe(II)(phen)(2)}]·4H(2)O, which contains two Co(III) centers and one Fe(II) center linked by cyanide bridges. The combination of coordinative bonds, O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.630 (2) Å] results in the stabilization of a supra-molecular structure. All uncoordinated water molecules are disordered. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals that the title complex loses the four crystal water mol-ecules at about 333 K, then the anhydrous phase loses no further mass up to about 573 K, above which decomposition occurs.

The trinuclear mol-ecules, with an intramolecular Cu⋯Cu separation of 6.313 (3) Å, are linked to each other, forming a chain through O-H⋯O and O-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds involving the half-occupied water mol-ecule. Futhermore, weak C-H⋯O inter-actions link the chains to form a supra-molecular network.

The central Cd(II) ion is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment formed by four O atoms from two SALPD(2-) ligands in the equatorial plane and two O atoms of two symmetry-related acetate ligands in the axial positions. The symmetry-related Ni(II) ions are in slightly distorted octa-hedral environments, coordinated by two O and two N atoms from tetra-dendate SALPD(2-) ligands in the equatorial plane, while the axial positions are occupied by O atoms from a dimethyl-formamide and an acetate ligand. This results in the formation of three edge-shared octa-hedra in which the Ni⋯Cd distance is 3.1482 (15) Å. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into an infinite three-dimensional network by O-H⋯O, N-H⋯Cl, N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N, C-H⋯O, C-H⋯N and C/N-H⋯π inter-actions involving the pyridine rings.
