Ortho-rhom-bic modification of bis-[4-(3-pyridyl-methyl-idene-amino)-phen-yl]methane.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(25)H(20)N(4), is a disubstituted methane derivative having two pyridyl-methyl-ene-amino-phenyl arms, one of which is essentially rigid as all atoms lie on a plane (r.m.s. deviation = 0.074 Å), whereas the other is twisted [dihedral angle between the phenyl-ene and pyridyl rings = 51.1 (4)°]. The angle at the methyl-ene C atom is 113.2 (2)°.

Project description:The title compound, C(14)H(12)N(2)O(2), is an ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of the previously reported monoclinic form [Bakir et al. (2005 ▶). Acta Cryst. E61, o1611-o1613]. The dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 4.32 (13)°. The mol-ecular structures of the two polymorphs, including short intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the the hydr-oxy and keto groups, are quite similar but their crystal packings are distinct. Unlike the monoclinic form, in which centrosymmetrically related hydr-oxy and keto groups form {⋯H⋯O}(2) synthons via weak O-H⋯O contacts, leading to dimeric aggregates, in the ortho-rhom-bic form, the hydrogen bonding between these groups leads to the formation of supra-molecular chains orientated along the a axis.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(16)H(11)NO(2), is disordered about a pseudo-twofold rotation axis that approximately bis-ects the mol-ecule along the C=O double bond. The two overlapping components are planar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.10 Å in the major 0.537 (4) component and 0.07 Å in the minor component]. The two components are aligned at 1.8 (3)°.

Two ortho-rhom-bic polymorphs of hydro-morphone.

Project description:Conditions to obtain two polymorphic forms by crystallization from solution were determined for the analgesic drug hydro-morphone [C17H19NO3; systematic name: (4R,4aR,7aR,12bS)-9-hy-droxy-3-methyl-1,2,4,4a,5,6,7a,13-octa-hydro-4,12-methano-benzofuro[3,2-e]iso-quinolin-7-one]. These two crystalline forms, designated as I and II, belong to the P212121 ortho-rhom-bic space group. In both polymorphs, the hydro-morphone mol-ecules adopt very similar conformations with some small differences observed only in the N-methyl amine part of the mol-ecule. The crystal structures of both polymorphs feature chains of mol-ecules connected by hydrogen bonds; however, in form I this inter-action occurs between the hydroxyl group and the tertiary amine N atom whereas in form II the hydroxyl group acts as a donor of a hydrogen bond to the O atom from the cyclic ether part.

Project description:THE TITLE COMPOUND [SYSTEMATIC NAME: N,N-dieth-yl({[(diethyl-carbamothio-yl)sulfan-yl]selan-yl}sulfan-yl)carbothio-amide], C(10)H(20)N(2)S(4)Se, crystallizes in a new form in the space group Pca2(1): the previously reported polymorph crystallizes in the space group P2(1)2(1)2(1). The new phase contains two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The Se atoms are tetra-coordinated, with a distorted square-planar geometry. The ligands coordinate asymmetrically to the Se atoms, with one strong Se-S bond [range 2.2833 (13)-2.3041 (15) Å] and one weaker bond [range 2.7318 (14)-2.7873 (12) Å].

Project description:The title compound, C7H7N3, is an ortho-rhom-bic polymorph that crystallizes in the space group Pca21. The previously reported monoclinic form [Geiger & Parsons (2013 ▶) Acta Cryst. E69, o452] crystallizes in the space group P21/c (Z = 4). In the crystal, two independent HN-H⋯N C hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along the a-glide plane. Two further independent HN-H⋯NH2 hydrogen bonds join the chains, forming a three-dimensional network.

An ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of the ultraphosphate YP(5)O(14).

Project description:Single crystals of yttrium penta-phosphate(V), YP(5)O(14), were obtained by solid-state reaction. The ortho-rhom-bic title compound belongs to the family of ultraphosphates and is the second polymorph of this composition. It is isotypic with its Ho and Er analogues. The structure contains two bridging Q(2)-type PO(4) tetra-hedra and one branching Q(3)-type PO(4) tetra-hedron, leading to infinite ultraphosphate ribbons running along the a axis. The coordination polyhedron around the Y(3+) cation may be described as distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic. The YO(8) polyhedra are isolated from each other. They are linked by corner-sharing to the O atoms of six Q(2)-type and of two Q(3)-type PO(4) tetra-hedra into a three-dimensional framework.

Ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of (2E)-2-(2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-yl-idene)-2,3-di-hydro-1H-inden-1-one.

Project description:The title compound, C(18)H(14)O, is polymorphic at 123 K. The ortho-rhom-bic form reported herein has two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, with mol-ecular volume 313.5 Å(3). The previously reported triclinic (P-1) form [Raston & Scott (2000 ▶). Green Chem., 2, 49-52] has mol-ecular volume 309.6 Å(3) at the same temperature. All three mol-ecules deviate significantly and systematically from the putative C(s) symmetry (δ(r.m.s.) = 0.0265, 0.0256, 0.0497 Å). Comparison of the two molecules in the orthorhombic polymorph shows that 16 of the 19 equivalent pairs of framework atoms have a mirror-image pattern of deviations (above/below plane), suggesting that the two are quasi-enanti-omorphs. The pattern of deviations in the triclinic form is nearly the same (13 of 19 atom pairs) as the ortho-rhom-bic form.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(19)IO(5), is the ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of a previously reported monoclinic form [Krajewski et al. (1987 ▶). Bull. Pol. Acad. Sci. Chem.35, 91-102]. The dihedral angles between the six-membered ring and the two five-membered rings are 67.66 (14) and 71.79 (13)°, whereas the dihedral angle between the five-membered rings is 74.41 (12)°, indicating that all three rings are twisted from each other. The six-membered ring has a twist-boat conformation while both of the five-membered rings have envelope conformations. The crystal structure is stabilized by a network of C-H⋯O contacts linking the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional array parallel to the ab plane.

An ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of cerium(III) ultraphosphate, CeP(5)O(14).

Project description:Cerium(III) ultraphosphate, CeP(5)O(14), was synthesized by a high-temperature solution reaction between CeO(2) and NH(4)H(2)PO(4) in a Ce-P molar ratio of 1:12. Colourless crystals of the ortho-rhom-bic polymorph were obtained by cooling the melt of the mixture. The structure contains (P(5)O(14))(3-) anionic ribbons linked by distorted CeO(8) polyhedra.
