Tetra-yttrium(III) tris-ulfide disilicate.

ABSTRACT: Tetra-yttrium(III) tris-ulfide disilicate, Y(4)S(3)(Si(2)O(7)), crystallizes in the Sm(4)S(3)(Si(2)O(7)) structure type. The structure consists of isolated (Si(2)O(7))(6-) units (2mm. symmetry) and two crystallo-graphically independent Y(3+) cations bridged by one S and one O atom. The first Y atom (site symmetry .m.) is coordinated by three O atoms and three S atoms in a trigonal-prismatic arrangement whereas the second Y atom (site symmetry ..2) is coordinated by six O atoms and three S atoms in a tricapped trigonal-prismatic arrangement.

Project description:In the crystal structure of Y4F2[Si2O7][SiO4], three fundamental building blocks are present, viz. anionic disilicate and orthosilicate units ([Si2O7](6-) and [SiO4](4-)) and cationic [F2Y4](10+) entities. The latter are built up by two [FY3](8+) triangles sharing a common edge. The four crystallographically independent Y(3+) cations display coordination numbers of eight for one and of seven for the other three cations, provided by oxide and fluoride anions. The overall arrangement of the building blocks can be considered as layer-like parallel to the ac plane.

Project description:The title compound, [Li(NH(3))(4)](+)[Li(NH(3))(3)S(3)](-), an ammo-niate of the previously unknown lithium tris-ulfide, was obtained from the reaction of lithium and sulfur in liquid ammonia. The asymmetric unit consists of two crystallographically independent formula units. The [Li(NH(3))(4)](+) cations are close to regular LiN(4) tetra-hedra. The anions contain LiSN(3) tetra-hedra; the S-S-S bond angles are 110.43 (5) and 109.53 (5)°. In the crystal, the components are linked by multiple N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds. A weak N-H⋯N hydrogen bond is also present.

Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide.

Project description:Crystals of NiUS3 were obtained from the reaction of the elements Ni, U, S, and of GeI2 in a CsCl flux at 1173 K. Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide, NiUS3, has ortho-rhom-bic (Pnma) symmetry and crystallizes in the GdFeO3 structure type. The compound has a perovskite ABQ 3-like structure, with U occupying the inter-stitial sites of a NiS6 framework. The U atoms are coordinated by eight S atoms in a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic arrangement. The Ni atoms are coordinated by six S atoms in a slightly distorted octa-hedral arrangement. The asymmetric unit comprises one U site (site symmetry .m.), one Ni site (-1), and two S sites (1 and .m.).

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(20)P(2)S(5), the P atoms are arranged trans with respect to the S(3) group and the S=P-S-S systems have cisoid geometry, with an average S-P-S-S torsion angle of -56.7°. The dihedral angles between the two phenyl rings attached to the P atoms are 87.33?(12) and 75.67?(10)°. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules are linked into chains running parallel to the a axis by weak inter-molecular C-H?S hydrogen bonds. Centrosymmetrically related chains are further connected by ?-? stacking inter-actions, with a centroid-to-centroid distance of 3.795?(5)?Å.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(14)H(12)Br(2)S(3), lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis which bis-ects the S-S-S angle. The dihedral angle between the two symmetry-related benzene rings is 89.91 (9)°. In terms of hybridization principles, the S-C-C angle is slightly larger than expected.

One of the thienyl groups and the bound THF are disordered with 0.5:0.5 occupancy. The free THF is disordered around the threefold axis.

Redetermination of dicerium(III) tris-(sulfate) tetra-hydrate.

Project description:Ce(2)(SO(4))(3)(H(2)O)(4) was obtained hydro-thermally from an aqueous solution of cerium(III) oxide, trimethyl-amine and sulfuric acid. The precision of the structure determination has been significantly improved compared with the previous result [Dereigne (1972 ▶). Bull. Soc. Fr. Mineral. Cristallogr.95, 269-280]. The coordination about the two Ce atoms is achieved by seven and six bridging O atoms from sulfate anions. Each S atom makes four S-O-Ce linkages through bridging O atoms. The coordination sphere of each Ce is completed by two water molecules, which act as terminal ligands.

Crystal structure of the mixed-metal tris-ulfide BaCu1/3Ta2/3S3.

Project description:The mixed-metal title compound, BaCu1/3Ta2/3S3 [barium copper(II) tantalum(V) tris-ulfide], was prepared through solid-state reactions. The crystal structure adopts the BaTaS3 structure type and consists of face-sharing [MS6] (M = Ta,Cu) octa-hedra (point-group symmetry -3m.) that are condensed into infinite chains along [001]. Adjacent chains are linked through the barium cations (site symmetry -6m2), which exhibit a coordination number of twelve. The M site is occupied by 2/3 of TaV and 1/3 of CuII, whereby the average M-S distances are slightly longer than those of ordered BaTaS3. The classical charge balance of the title compound can be represented by [Ba2+] [(Ta/Cu)4+] [S2-]3.

In the crystal, alternating layers of cations and anions are arranged parallel to (10[Formula: see text]) and are linked with the water mol-ecules via intra- and inter-molecular N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming a complex three-dimensional network. Additional stabilization within the layers is provided by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl inter-actions.
